Working in heart surgery, I see many of my patients at a point where they’ve had their first heart attack. Even at that time, it’s not too late to do something about it for most. Many people stop smoking, start exercising and eating healthy at that point – but some are permanently damaged with no way back. Unfortunately there is no way to replace a heart. Why wait until that point? We can all do something to get ourselves into better shape right now. Even if you’re one of the lucky ones who’s BMI is normal, exercising and eating healthily can reduce risks of other causes of heart disease like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.
